Stroom legal
Privacy Policy
Effective 16 September 2026
This policy explains how Stroom handles information when you use the mobile application and its supporting services.
Information we process
- Account and profile information, including your email address, name, username, biography, profile image and general location.
- Community content, including water-source photos, optional view photos, reports, ratings, descriptions, capture dates and source types.
- Precise coordinates needed to match reports to water sources. Original photo metadata is processed to validate capture date and location; it is not exposed through the public API.
- Social and game activity, including follows, clubs, reports, points, territory activity and moderation reports.
- Routes and GPX files you choose to save, including route geometry and visibility.
- Technical, security and subscription records needed to operate the service, prevent abuse and confirm Premium access.
How we use information
We use this information to publish reports you submit, match reports to nearby sources, show maps and feeds, calculate game results, provide route tools and rainfall-based availability estimates, secure the service, respond to support requests, moderate content and administer subscriptions.
What other users can see
Your public profile and submitted community content may be visible to signed-in Stroom users. Map APIs return only the fields needed by the app and use bounded, rate-limited queries. Private routes remain visible only to you. Approximate-location settings may reduce the precision displayed to other users but do not remove the exact coordinate needed for source matching.
Service providers
Stroom uses Supabase for authentication, databases, file storage and server functions; Apple and Google for app distribution and payments; RevenueCat for subscription status; OpenStreetMap-derived data for trails and waterways; NASA POWER for historical report rainfall; and Open-Meteo for recent rainfall used by live availability estimates. Weather requests use a coarsened location and bounded date window rather than your identity.
Retention and deletion
We retain information while your account is active and as needed for security, legal and operational purposes. You can request deletion in Settings → Delete account. The request enters a seven-day safety window before permanent processing. Deleting Stroom does not cancel an Apple or Google subscription; subscriptions must be cancelled in the relevant store account.
Your choices
You can edit your profile, delete individual reports, choose route visibility, change supported settings, request an export, report inappropriate content, or request full account deletion. Device permissions for location, camera and photos can be changed in system settings.
Security and children
We use access controls, private media storage, short-lived media links and server-side validation. No system can guarantee absolute security. Stroom is not directed to children under 13.
